The Chow Chow

Chows actually were first bred in Mongolia, before being introduced to China. Literally translated from Chinese (Songshi Quan) their name really means “Puffy Lion Dog”. This breed has a mane and a double coat. Chows are extremely loyal to their owners and are wary of strangers. These dogs need to be socialised at an early age.

This breed of dog is noted for having double dewclaws and very thick white fur.

Historically the Chihuahua were larger than they are today. Chihuahuas were crossed with miniature breeds like the Chinese Crested by the Spanish to create a smaller dog. Today Chihuahuas are often crossed with Dachshunds, to get Chihuaschunds, or with Beagles to get Chihueagles.

Schipperke

“Little Black Devil” or the “Tasmanian Devil Dog” are names given to this breed because of its notorious bad behaviour. If you directly translate the name Schipperke you get “Little Captain”. The average lifespan for this small breed of dog is about 17 to 18 years.
